BMW 1-Series Convertible

BMW has extended the 1-Series range by adding a convertible model to the already extensive three-strong lineup. Scheduled to be revealed at the forthcoming Tokyo Motor Show, the new car shares a virtually identical silhouette as its coupe sibling but features an electro-hydraulic fabric roof.

As with the coupe, the convertible features a horizontal shoulder line which runs from the front of the hood, through the doors and onto the end of the trunk lid, visually connecting the front and rear. It is complemented by the now common lower swage line and contoured sill, both designed to visually elongate the appearance of the car. From the rear, the trunk lid finishes in a discrete lip spoiler that houses the integrated third brake light and the L-shaped rear light clusters employ LED lamps.

Inside, the new model features stretched horizontal lines that visually dominate the cockpit. The innovative technologies found on the larger 3 and 6-Series convertible variants have also been integrated in the 1-Series, including SunReflective Leather Technology and an air conditioning system which recognizes when the roof is open, defaulting to a 'convertible' mode to keep occupants cozy. Two rollover bars are included behind the rear seats for safety.
