The Lamborghini Jarama

Lamborghini Jarama is a sports coupé which was built by Lamborghini between 1970 and 1976. It was designed by Bertone designer Marcello Gandini. It was named after the Jarama racing circuit near Madrid, Spain (which is in turn named after the Jarama river).

In 1970, Lamborghini had to redesign the Islero to meet new United States safety and emissions regulations. The new car was built on a shortened version of the same platform as the Espada. Two different models were made, the original GT (1970-1973) model having 350 bhp V12, and the GTS (1973-1976) with its output upped to 365 bhp. Also, with the GTS there were a few minor body modifications and power assisted steering, removable roof panels, and an automatic transmission became available as options. A total of 327 Jaramas were built.

Ferruccio Lamborghini's personal Jarama GTS is on display at the official Lamborghini museum.

The Lamborghini 400GT

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
The Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 was a 2+2-seated sports car from the Italian manufacturer Lamborghini, successor to the 350GT. First presented at the 1966 Geneva Auto Show.

Compared to its predecessor the engine was enlarged to 3929 cc (240 c.i.), increasing the power to 320 bhp (239 kW). The 400GT 2+2 was actually a different body from the 350GT, with a longer wheelbase, different roofline, and some sheetmetal changes throughout the car. The larger body shape enabled the +2 seating to be installed in the rear, where the 350GT only had room for luggage or +1 seating. The bodywork was designed by Carrozzeria Touring. The 400GT 2+2 also had a Lamborghini designed gearbox, with Porsche style synchromesh on all gears, which greatly improved the drivetrain.

There was a variant of the 350GT with the 4L V12 fitted to it, which was called the 400GT. Only 23 of these smaller coupes were built, three of which had desirable aluminium bodywork.

A total of 247 units were built from 1966 to 1968, when it was replaced with the Islero.

The Lamborghini 350GT

By sabrebIade
The Lamborghini 350GT was the first production car by Lamborghini, first shown at the Turin Motor Show in 1963.

The car featured a 3.5 litre quad-cam V-12 engine (hence its designation), independent rear suspension (while Ferrari still used live rear axles) and a controversial 2+1 semi-fastback body by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan.

The 350GT generally drew high praises at the time for its flexible and high-revving engine, its stable cornering, even on rough surfaces, and its high level of finish. 120 copies were built from 1963 to 1966.

It has a top speed of 149mph and can accelerate to 60mph in 6.8 seconds.

The Lamborghini 350 GTV

The Lamborghini 350 GTV was the prototype and forerunner of the later 350 GT (Lamborghini´s first production model).

It featured a controversial semi-fastback body design by Franco Scaglione, which was modified for series production by Carrozzeria Touring, and Lamborghini's own 3.5 liter V-12 engine. The car was presented to the public on the 1963 Turin Auto Show.

The Porsche 924, part 4

In 1986 the 924S was released. Porsche realised with the 944's prices increasing with new standard features and options, they were losing their place as Porsches entry-level model car. While the 924 had always been available in other markets, Porsche decided to re-introduce the 924 to the American market with an initial price under $20,000. The 924S had an old-spec 944 engine producing 150 bhp and drivetrain but with a normal slim 924 body. It also retained the original 924's spartan, VW-like interior. In 1987 the 924S Le Mans (or Special Edition) was made available in limited numbers with a 944 spec 163hp engine, uprated suspension and cosmetically upgraded interior and exterior. This special 924 had manual windows, no sunroof, and no air conditioning to save weight, although you could order one with air conditioning if you so wished.

In 1988, the final year of production for the 924S, the power for all models was brought up to 163 hp (122 kW). This made the 924S faster than the base 944 due to its lighter weight and more aerodynamic body. Due to unfavorable exchange rates in the late 1980s, Porsche decided to focus on upmarket models. They dropped the 924S for the 1989 model year, and stopped producing the base 944 later that same year

The 924 has its own racing series in the form of the 924 Championship in which Jeff May had a pivotal role from the late 1980s until his death on 10th November 2003. Jeff was also one of the founding members of Porsche Club Great Britain. Barry Ashman (the Midlands BRSCC Coordinator) took over the running of the Championship in early 2004. The 924S is also eligible to race in the 944-Spec racing class.

Time Traveler: My '40 Ford Fixation

Time Traveler: My '40 Ford Fixation: "I've wanted a 1940 Ford Deluxe business coupe for a long, long time.

Back in high school, I owned a '40 with a '53 Olds V8, but it never made it to the stage where it would run consistently. In those days, all my friends had '40 Ford coupes. Good-looking, lightweight and begging for more horsepower, '40 Ford coupes were the hot-rod du jour in the late '50s.

I've regretted selling it ever since.

Like the ethereal ice skater in the classic movie Carnal Knowledge, a '40 Ford coupe has twirled and pirouetted tantalizingly just out of reach in my mind ever since.

I sold my '34 Ford coupe last year ('Love means never having to say you're selling'), then I ramped up the hunt for that elusive '40."

Warrnambool Standard

Warrnambool Standard: "HORSEPOWER rumbled Port Fairy at the weekend when South West Hot Rod Club's annual show roared into town.
Visitors, holidaymakers and residents alike basked in the glory of more than 300 entries on display.
Hot rod enthusiast Andrew Hodges said it was his 17th visit to the show.
``We come down every year,'' Mr Hodges said.
``I've got four hot rods and I try to rotate them every year. I have a chopper too,'' he added.
He said the show had received 150 to 160 entries, but estimated more than 300 cars had arrived on site yesterday."

1932 Ford Hot Rod Celebrates its 75th Anniversary

1932 Ford Hot Rod Celebrates its 75th Anniversary: "The 1932 Ford is the holy grail of hot rods. Better known as 'the Deuce,' it's the car every hot-rodder wants. Roadsters and coupes are especially prized, but any Deuce will do.

Over the years, hot-rodders have never stopped modifying the '32 Ford. It's been chopped and channeled, dropped and drilled, fixed up and souped up. It's been raced from one end of the country to the other, from dry lakes in California to drag strips in Indiana.

And, of course, the Deuce is the icon of street racing everywhere.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the 1932 Ford, and it's being celebrated by a gathering of the most significant Deuces of all time.

Last year, Ford commissioned a panel of hot-rod experts to review a list of some 474 worthy cars and whittle it down to 75 cars. To honor these cars, Ford has created a special display, 'The 75: The 75 Most Influential '32 Ford Hot Rods.' It will be unveiled at the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, California, January 26-28, 2007.

Many of these historic cars had been lost over the years only to be rediscovered by today's enthusiasts. A surprising number have been carefully restored to look the way they did in their heyday. Only a few are still missing. "

WhoWon.com ... The Internet Source for Motorsports News and Information: "POMONA, Calif. -- The celebration continues at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California, as the '32 Ford, the quintessential hot rod, marks its diamond jubilee.

'Deuces Wild,' the Museum's anniversary exhibit, opens Feb. 7 featuring several of the 75 Most Significant '32 Ford hot rods as determined by a blue- ribbon panel of hot rod experts. Included will be Chili Catallo's 'Little Deuce Coupe' which appeared on the Beach Boys album of the same name -- perhaps one of the most famous '32 Ford hot rods of all time; a re-creation of Fred Allen's 'Devil Deuce;' the 'Orange Crate;' and roadsters from Tommy Foster, Neal East and the Berardini Bros. In total, 11 cars, 10 of which were deemed the '75 most significant.' The exhibit runs until June 18.

'You'll never see these historical cars together again,' said Museum Executive Director Tony Thacker, who was on the judging panel and has authored a book on the Deuce. 'If you're a Deuce fan, this is a once-in-a- lifetime collection.'

In addition to the cars, historic and never-before-displayed photography of early '32 Fords in production will be shown. Photographs of hot rods and racing Deuces will grace the walls of the Museum, a landmark part of the Los Angeles County Fairplex."

FayObserver.com - AP Article Page: "Bruce Suggs preaches the gospel while he burns rubber.
Suggs is the pastor of Crystal Springs Chapel and the owner of Suggs Auto Sales, a body shop that restores classic cars and modifies them into hot rods.
'We can fix anything but a broken heart, and we can take you to the church that can take care of that,' Suggs said.
Most people will know Suggs' company as Christ First Customs, the name he uses when he competes in shows. Suggs' show truck is a 1940 Ford F100 painted red with yellow flames.
On the back of the truck are three crosses with the words 'Covered by the blood of Jesus.' Near the exhaust, 'Make a joyful noise for the Lord' is written on the truck. People shoot more pictures of the words than the truck, Suggs said.
'It really opens up an avenue like never before.'
After spectators approach the truck, Suggs hands them placards with photos of the truck. On the back is a testimony that uses auto restoration as a metaphor for Jesus.
'Some people think you can't be a Christian and enjoy things like this. But you can,' Suggs said. 'Everything we do belongs to the Lord.'
Making hot rods complements his responsibilities as a pastor, Suggs said. When a church member needs help, Suggs can drop what he's doing. Suggs owns the company and he doesn't need permission from the boss to leave work.
But otherwise, Suggs is working side by side with his employees. His sons-in-law Jonathan Barefoot and Mike Francis work at the shop. Another employee, Cliff Boahn, is a church member who works part time."

Roadster show is a celebration of 1932 Ford hot rods

Roadster show is a celebration of 1932 Ford hot rods: "Don’t think that Henry Ford and his son, Edsel, didn’t have big things in mind when they combined the mechanical ingenuity of the first mass-produced, affordable V-8 with a stylish and aerodynamic body to produce a family of Fords in 1932. They could never have imagined how big it would become.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the 1932 Ford, the iconic symbol of American hot rods. Ford Motor Company is launching the anniversary festivities in a huge way, with a display of the 75 most significant ’32 Ford hot rods of all time. The display will be part of the 58th annual Grand National Roadster Show, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious hot rod and custom car show, held in Pomona, Calif., January 26-28.
The 75 most significant ’32 Ford hot rods were selected by a committee of automotive and hot rod experts who selected the 75 from a list of 474 nominees.
The Deuce 75th Anniversary exhibit will be staged in its own 42,000-square-foot building on the grounds of the Los Angeles Fairplex. At least 60 of the 75 ’32 Fords will be on display in person. Eight from the list have not survived. The exhibit has been specially designed to allow show goers an unobstructed view of each of the display vehicles and all 75 cars will be honored with large-format placards featuring essays written by well-known authors and historians Pat Ganahl and Greg Sharp along with many rare photographs.
A special multi-media program featuring rare historic images and film will play on a large-format screen in the center of the building."

'Deuce' celebrates 75th anniversary in spectacular display at Grand National Roadster Show - Autoblog

'Deuce' celebrates 75th anniversary in spectacular display at Grand National Roadster Show - Autoblog: "The iconic symbol of hot rodding is unquestionably the 1932 Ford. Designed with aerodynamic poise by Edsel Ford, the '32 also showcased Henry Ford's engineering genius with the introduction of an affordable V8 engine. Luckily, Ford didn't make the flathead motor as powerful as possible. Thousands of speed-loving, mechanically inclined owners handled the rest. History has been very kind to the '32. Almost anything is cool, from primered rat rods to billet masterpieces.

Last year, a panel of hot rod experts selected the 75 most significant 32 Ford hot rods out of 474 nominees. At this year's 58th annual Grand National Roadster Show held over the weekend at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds, about 60 of those 75 were gathered for a historic display in a 44,000-square-foot building. Eight of the 75 did not survive. Each of the vehicles on display had placards with essays and rare photos to document their selection.

Other '32 events are planned for the year, including 'Deuce Week' at the Petersen Automotive Museum in February, and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance will honor the class of '32."

Kevin & Karen Alstott's '35 Ford wins America's Most Beautiful Roadster award - Autoblog

Kevin & Karen Alstott's '35 Ford wins America's Most Beautiful Roadster award - Autoblog: "Last year's winner of the prestigious Ridler Award at the Detroit Autorama has added another big trophy to its collection. Kevin and Karen Alstott's 1935 Ford convertible captured top honors at the 58th Grand National Roadster show on Sunday night when it was named America's Most Beautiful Roadster.

This was the 58th edition of the Grand National Roadster Show, which was known as the Oakland Roadster Show before moving to the more spacious Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. The honor has been won by some of the industry's most notable hot rodders, including Blackie Gejeian, George Barris, Tex Smith, Ermie Immerso, Boyd Coddington and Chuck Lombardo.

The Alstott's '35, nicknamed the Iowa Radster, was built by Roger Burman at Lakeside Rods & Rides. Marcel DeLay hand-formed the body and the Recovery Room finished the interior. Power comes from a 408-cubic-inch all-aluminum small-block engine."

abc7.com: Southern California's news leader - Raodster Show Celebrates Hot Rods

abc7.com: Southern California's news leader - Raodster Show Celebrates Hot Rods: "January 26, 2007 - The Grand National Roadster Show celebrates the American hot rod, cars that clever young men began creating right after World War II.
The definitive hot rod is widely thought to be the '32 Ford. When the Beach Boys sang about their 'Little Deuce Coupe,' they were referring to a '32.
Some of the most significant '32s in the world have been gathered for the show and each one has a story. Some were built for speed contests on California's dry lakes, while others were created for show.
Ford has also commissioned hand-built pedal cars from some of the top rod builders, they'll be auctioned off later this year for charity.
Even if you were too young to be there when hot rodding began, you might know the cars from pop culture. 'American Graffiti' showcased a mean '32 on the big screen, while the made-for-TV Monkees drove around in a wild, hot-rodded custom Pontiac that's just undergone a complete restoration.
In today's world, the rods that win trophies can cost hundreds of thousands to build or buy.
But for only a few dollars, you can admire the cars of others at the show. "
