Jaguar XJ

The Jaguar XJ is a luxury saloon sold under the British Jaguar marque. The XJ was launched in 1968 and has served as Jaguar's flagship model for most of its production span which continues through to today. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have had the input of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder.

Jaguar XJ Numbering

Just prior to World War II Jaguar, known then as SS Cars, started using a numbering system beginning with the letter X for internal projects. X meaning experimental, XB for military chassis projects and XF to XK for engines. This numbering system has never been consistent and there appears to be many omissions and duplications.

While most of the sedans in this segment are indiscernible in a crowd, the all-new 2011 Jaguar XJ draws mesmerized stares at first glance. Jaguar, intent on designing "beautiful speedy cars" with "seductive designs," has delivered a sleek, liquid and contemporary shape – it is not difficult to visualize that leaping black cat in its elongated silhouette. Instantly recognizable as a Jaguar – thanks to the giant front grille – the XJ's figure doesn't overtly build-upon the styling of the XF, as plenty of would have expected.
