Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR Recaptures Lap Record at Laguna Seca

Street-legal, Production Supercar Sets New Mark

Monterey, Calif., Nov 24, 2009 – The Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team from Chrysler Group LLC arrived at Laguna Seca raceway today on a mission – to recapture the production car lap record at the world-renowned road course in Monterey, Calif. Mission accomplished.

Chris Winkler, an SRT vehicle dynamics engineer piloted a black and red 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR (American Club Racer) to a lap record of 1:33.915 as recorded by Motech in-vehicle data recorder (1:33.944 – as unofficially recorded by trackside clock) around the 2.238-mile, 11-turn course, shattering the previous lap record by more than 1.1 seconds.

‘It was definitely exciting but a somewhat uneventful lap overall from behind the steering wheel,’ said Winkler, who is still learning the intricate details of Laguna Seca raceway, having spent only one other session on the course. ‘The Dodge Viper ACR has amazing power and handles like a dream, so following my first practice here last month, I came away pretty confident that we’d be able to set a new record.’

In 2008, professional road racer Randy Pobst, drove a 2008 Dodge Viper ACR to a one-lap, production car record of 1:35.117 at Laguna Seca raceway while working with Motor Trend. That record stood until August 6, 2009 when the most recent record of 1:35.075 was established by a one-off exotic prototype.

Ralph Gilles, President and CEO, Dodge Brand and Senior Vice President, Product Design Office, Chrysler Group LLC, was impressed with the Viper’s performance. ‘I’ve been closely tied to this car my entire career and even after owning one myself for some time, I’m still amazed with what the Dodge Viper can do on and off the race track,’ Gilles said. ‘After our record-setting lap at the Nürburgring circuit, we’re excited to set a second performance benchmark record at another world-famous road course.’

The Dodge Viper is going into the final year of production for the current-generation model. Approximately 500 Vipers will be produced in 2010.

‘We’re going to keep Dodge’s performance icon alive and well by not only producing some of the most special Vipers ever built, but we’re also investigating what the next-generation Viper is going to be,’ added Gilles. ‘When we have partners across the ocean who are known as the best sports carmakers in the world, the future opportunities are huge.’

2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR

The Dodge Viper ACR remains the ultimate purpose-built, street-legal track car since its introduction in 2008.

New for the 2010 model year is a shorter fifth gear ratio (changing from 0.74 to 0.80) for improved high-speed acceleration and higher straightaway speeds. This improvement is a direct result of SRT’s experience at the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany where during the lap-record run in 2008, it was found that a revised gear ratio would have resulted in a higher speed capability and potentially a shorter elapsed time.

The Dodge Viper ACR also receives a new short-throw shifter in 2010 for enhanced driver experience and better performance. The rear wing profile and end plates are redesigned to further optimize the vehicle aerodynamics and improve rear yaw downforce. These changes result in an increase in top speed of 4 mph (to 184 mph).

Powered by the venerable 8.4-liter, V-10 engine with 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque, the Dodge Viper ACR continues to offer extreme performance, including 0-60 mph acceleration in less than 4 seconds, quarter-mile time in the mid 11-second range and 0-100-0 mph in 11 seconds flat.

The Dodge Viper ACR with optional Hard Core Package is more than 80 lbs. lighter than the production SRT10 and offers race-ready hardware and competition tuning for optimal on-track performance.

The four-wheel independent suspension features high-performance aluminum control arms and knuckles, KW suspension with two-way adjustable competition coil-over shock absorbers with remote reservoirs.

The aerodynamic package features a carbon fiber ‘fanged’ splitter in front and adjustable carbon-fiber wing with seven-position stanchions that allow up to an amazing 1,000 lbs. of downforce at 150 mph. Lightweight wheels, two-piece slotted StopTech brake rotors and Michelin PS Cup tires round out the Dodge Viper ACR package.

The 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR will make its worldwide auto show debut on Dec. 2, 2009 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Dodge Viper ACR Wins First Ever ‘Performance Car of Texas’ Award

# Top honor awarded at the 2010 Texas Auto Writers Association Spring Challenge event in Fort Worth

# Award reinforces Dodge Viper’s position as America’s Ultimate Sports Car and the Dodge brand’s performance leadership

Fort Worth, Texas, May 10, 2010 – Members of the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) named the Dodge Viper ACR (American Club Racer) as ‘Performance Car of Texas’ at the 2010 Spring Challenge, the organization’s annual passenger-car competition.

The Spring Challenge event was held May 3 at Texas Motor Speedway and featured more than 50 vehicles from various manufacturers, all vying for a top award from 40 of the TAWA journalists in attendance.

The Viper ACR was one of only eight vehicles honored in this year’s list of various categories. Automotive media evaluated vehicles in side-by-side comparisons, and the top awards were given based on individual impressions and by secret ballot. The Viper ACR was chosen as top performer on the 1-mile infield road course against several performance vehicles.

‘The Dodge Viper ACR is the worthy recipient of our first Performance Car of Texas award,’ said Michael Herzing, President – Texas Auto Writers Association and publisher of LetsTalkWheels.com. ‘By topping some of the toughest competitors in today’s performance car marketplace, we feel this award is a real testament to the Dodge Viper’s superior level of overall performance.’

Introduced in 2008, the Dodge Viper ACR is powered by the venerable 8.4-liter, V-10 engine with 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque, resulting in benchmark performance including 0-60 mph acceleration in less than 4 seconds, quarter-mile time in the mid 11-second range and 0-100-0 mph in 11 seconds flat.

‘It is a great honor to see the Texas Auto Writers Association recognize the Dodge Viper ACR for this significant award,’ said Ralph Gilles – President and CEO, Dodge Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. ‘At Dodge, we’re extremely proud of what the Viper represents within the performance car market, and this award helps us continue to tell the story of America’s ultimate, street-legal sports car.’

The 2009 model-year Dodge Journey will be available in U.S. dealerships with both five-passenger and available 5+2 seating in SE, SXT and R/T models in the first quarter of 2008 and in global volume markets outside North America in both left-hand and right-hand drive, starting in mid-2008.
Powertrains Provide Efficiency, Flexibility, Fun-to-drive Factor

The front-wheel-drive Dodge Journey features a four-wheel independent front suspension with MacPherson struts and a multi-link rear suspension. Front and rear suspension crossmembers are isolated to the body to create a quiet ride, with less road noise, vibration and harshness. AWD is available on Dodge Journey models sold in the United States and Canada on vehicles equipped with the 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard.

Dodge Journey features several different engine/transaxle combinations designed to meet the needs of the diverse mid-size crossover buyer. These include a fuel-efficient 2.4-liter four-cylinder World Engine, a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) 2.7-liter V-6 engine that can run on E-85, an available 3.5-liter V-6 engine coupled with a six-speed automatic transaxle with Auto Stick for the United States and Canada and a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine equipped with a six-speed manual or automatic transaxle for markets outside North America.

Dodge Journey’s standard 2.4-liter World Engine provides an estimated fuel economy of 19 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 25 mpg on the highway (approximately 9 liters per 100 km on the European combined cycle), as well as solid, quiet performance. Journey’s 2.4-liter World Engine is coupled with a standard four-speed automatic transaxle in the United States and Canada, as well as a five-speed manual transaxle in most markets outside North America. It features dual variable valve timing, intake manifold flow control valves, acoustic cylinder head covers, dual counter-rotating balance shafts and an acoustic oil pan. Mated to a four-speed automatic transaxle, this engine produces 173 horsepower (129 kW) and 166 lb.-ft. (225 N•m) of torque.

Dodge Journey also features an available 2.7-liter V-6 engine, coupled with a four-speed automatic transaxle that is offered as an FFV in North America. The flex-fuel engine produces 186 horsepower (138 kW) and 191 lb.-ft. (259 N•m) of torque and delivers an estimated 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway (approximately 10 liters per 100 km on the European combined cycle). The Journey’s 2.7-liter engine with flexible fuel capability has the ability to operate effectively on any blend of gasoline and fuel-grade ethanol up to E-85. Outside North America, this 2.7-liter V-6 engine is coupled with a six-speed automatic transaxle.

Dodge Journey R/T and R/T AWD vehicles available in the United States and Canada feature a standard 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 235 horsepower (175 kW) and 232 lb.-ft. (315 N•m) of torque coupled with a six-speed automatic transaxle that comes standard with Auto Stick. This engine delivers an estimated 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. This 3.5-liter V-6 engine also is available on SXT models sold in the United States and Canada. The combination of the 3.5-liter V-6 engine coupled with the six-speed automatic transaxle delivers excellent performance and fuel efficiency, as well as quiet operation.

In markets outside North America, Dodge Journey offers a modern 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transaxle. This 16-valve diesel engine is a state-of-the-art direct-injection power plant with high-pressure fuel injection, a variable geometry turbocharger and four valves per cylinder. The injectors are electronically controlled for high power and torque output and optimal fuel efficiency. Maximum power is 140 horsepower DIN (103 kW), and peak torque is 229 lb.-ft. (310 N•m). The engine is expected to deliver excellent overall performance and fuel economy of under 7 liters per 100 km (European combined cycle). A diesel particulate filter is standard from the factory.

Six-speed Transaxle Provides Quick Acceleration, Quiet Ride

The 2009 model-year Dodge Journey R/T and R/T AWD models available in the United States and Canada, as well as 2.7-liter models sold outside North America, feature a standard six-speed automatic transaxle, which provides quicker standing-start acceleration than a four- or five-speed transaxle because of a numerically higher first-gear ratio. A more robust differential with increased torque capacity enhances launch performance by requiring less torque management, electronically limiting the torque that is available during the initial stages of standing-start acceleration. Smaller steps between ratios also make for a smoother, quieter ride, as the engine speed doesn’t change as much with each shift. In addition, more ratio choices, more appropriate ratios for quicker acceleration and a lower overall top gear ratio provide a quiet ride and improved fuel economy at highway speeds.

Dual-clutch Transaxle Technology Delivers Quick Acceleration, Refined Shift Quality and Improved Fuel Economy

The all-new Dodge Journey will be available with a new dual-clutch transaxle in markets outside of North America. This is the first application of this six-speed automatic transaxle, and it will be available with the 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine. It is expected to deliver a fuel economy improvement of as much as six percent compared with a conventional four-speed automatic transaxle.

Developed in partnership with Getrag, the new transaxle is equipped with two independent lay-shaft style gear sets with separate clutches, that use manual transaxle-based components. During shifts, the next gear is anticipated and pre-selected. One clutch is then opened while the other is closed, allowing shifting without torque interruption. The result is quicker acceleration, refined shift quality and improved fuel economy.

AWD Keeps All Four Wheels Planted

Dodge Journey SXT and R/T models sold in the United States and Canada equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine also offer AWD capability. Journey’s all-wheel-drive system works on demand, driving only the front wheels until power to the rear wheels is needed. AWD also is used on dry pavement between speeds of 25 and 65 mph (40-105 km/h) to enhance handling during performance driving. This system provides added traction on snow, ice and other low-traction surfaces without having to be switched on and off.
Engineered to a High Safety Standard

From its high-strength structure to its active safety systems, Dodge Journey is designed and engineered to keep its occupants safe and secure. Standard safety equipment includes:

- Advanced Multi-stage Front Air Bags provide nearly instantaneous occupant protection by matching air bag output to crash severity
- Low-risk Deployment Air Bags are included for smaller and out-of-position occupants
- Front Seat-mounted Side Air Bags deploy for enhanced thorax protection during a side impact
- Supplemental Side Air Bag Inflatable Curtains with Extended Up Time deploy down to provide all three rows vehicle occupant head protection during side impact
- Structural Driver and Front Passenger Knee Bolsters control occupant kinematics and reduce leg loads
- Available Child Booster Seats for children 4 foot 9 inches (1.45 m) tall and between 48 lbs. (22 kg) and 85 lbs. (39kg) raise the child into the adult belted zone
- Anti-lock brakes (ABS) modulate the brakes for the driver to provide steering control while braking

- Event Data Recorder records the nature of a malfunction or impact event for retrieval using a service diagnostic tool
- Available ParkView™ Rear Backup Camera displays the view behind the vehicle in the navigation display when backing up or parking
- Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) alerts drivers to low tire pressure(s) to facilitate safe handling
- Brake-park Interlock prevents automatic transaxle from being shifted out of Park or Neutral without first applying brakes
- Side Guard Door Beams in front and rear doors provide occupant protection in the event of a side impact
Bold, Powerful Proportions with Edgy Lines Evoke SUV Capability

Journey is unmistakably Dodge, with powerful, muscular exterior styling cues that evoke the capable look associated with SUVs.

“The Journey combines the bold attitude of Dodge with excellent interior versatility designed to satisfy buyers’ rapidly changing demands,” said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President – Design. “Journey is the perfect right-sized vehicle for people who want the prestige of an SUV, but need the functionality and utility of a minivan.”

From the front, the signature Dodge crosshair chrome grille with the Dodge Ram’s head stamped in the center hammers home the Dodge brand message that Journey is bold, powerful and capable. Modern-looking quad halogen headlamps provide excellent road lighting. Available fascia-mounted fog lamps strengthen the contemporary look and help boost visibility during bad weather. Body-color fascias provide a monochromatic look that neatly frames the chrome crosshair grille and headlamps.

Dodge Journey boasts available 19-inch wheels and tires, which set it apart from the rest of the crossover pack. From the side view, Dodge Journey’s horizontal aluminum hood, long daylight opening and low-gloss black appliqués on the B- and C-pillars give the appearance of a long greenhouse. Sculpted wheel arches emphasize Journey’s sporty, athletic appearance. Dodge Journey’s beltline is more angled in front, but less so toward the rear, mimicking the top of the tail lamp shape, which makes it easier for rear-seat passengers to see out the windows — a bonus for pint-sized passengers. An available high-contrast black roof rack with buffed stainless steel roof rails adds capability and completes Journey’s side view.

The Dodge Journey’s rear view elicits as much excitement as the front. The Journey’s single piece, lightweight liftgate includes an integrated spoiler that delivers improved aerodynamics. An LED center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) is mounted in the liftgate header above the glass. Like the integrated spoiler above it, the outer surface of the CHMSL is styled for aerodynamics. Four-piece jeweled red tail lamps span the width of both the liftgate and the body and feature unique curves that give the Journey added style and sportiness. The rear glass on the liftgate’s lower edge follows the curvature of the tail lamps to improve visibility through the rear window. Extra shimmer that adds gleam to the Journey’s performance capability comes from the chrome-tipped dual exhausts, which are standard with the available 3.5-liter V-6 engine in North America.

The Dodge Journey adapts the company’s D-segment architecture also used on the 2008 model-year Dodge Avenger. However, Journey’s 113.8-inch (2890 mm) wheelbase is 4.9 in. (124 mm) longer than Avenger’s to accommodate its available 5+2 seating and additional cargo space.

Dodge Journey will be available in Inferno Red Crystal Pearl Coat, Light Sandstone Metallic Clear Coat, Melbourne Green Pearl Coat, Deep Water Blue Pearl Coat, Silver Steel Metallic Clear Coat, Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat and Stone White Clear Coat.
Spacious Interior Room for the Entire Journey

A key target for the Dodge Journey’s design team was delivering a practical, flexible interior, with seating and innovative storage features typically only found in a minivan, and the final product delivers.

Dodge Journey’s two-box exterior design means more room for seating people and storing gear on the interior. Journey offers a choice of two seating configurations to balance buyers’ needs for passenger seating and cargo room. Five-passenger seating is standard on all models, while 5+2-passenger seating is available on all models. The Journey’s available third row gives passengers 2 inches (51 mm) more head room than leading North American competitors.

Storing things “under the front seat” takes on an entirely new meaning, thanks to Journey’s available Flip ’N Stow™ in-seat storage. The Journey’s front passenger seat cushion flips forward to reveal a large 10.75 x 8.75-inch (273 x 222 mm) bin under the seat cushion. The bin is large enough to store a purse, umbrella, planner or headphones with the seat down. The seat cushion is hinged, and when flipped forward, provides access to the storage bin.

Dodge Journey’s rear doors open 90 degrees, making it easier for people to get in and out of the second row and gain access to the available third-row seat.

In the second row, the all-new Dodge Journey features theater seating, which gives passengers in the second and third row the ability to see outside the vehicle, which is especially helpful for keeping kids entertained on long drives. The second row H-point is 1.6 inches (40 mm) higher than the first row. The available third row sits another .6 inches (17 mm) higher than the second row and 2.2 inches (57 mm) higher than the first-row seats.

Located in the floor behind the front-row seats are two standard in-floor storage bins that are designed to hold 12, 12-oz. (330 ml) cans plus ice or other items conveniently out of sight. For added convenience, the bins feature latching lids and removable, washable liners, so they’re a snap to clean.

Additional thoughtful features that make Dodge Journey more flexible for families include a child presenter seat on all models that makes it easy for the driver to attend to a small child seated in the second row when the vehicle is stationary. The child presenter seat works by allowing the 60 percent portion of the 60/40 fold-flat second row seat to travel 2 inches (51 mm) forward. With the front passenger seat folded flat, the driver can easily reach to the back to assist a child in the second row.

Dodge Journey is the first vehicle in the mid-size crossover segment to offer available integrated child booster seats. These available seats boost a child seated in the second row 4 inches (102 mm) so they’re seated in the adult belted zone. This makes it easier for the child seated in the booster seat to see outside the vehicle. The booster seat is designed for children who are as much as 4 foot 9 inches (1.45 m) tall and between 48 lbs. (22 kg) and 85 lbs. (39 kg).

The second-row seats also move forward and rearward a total of 4.7 inches (120 mm) to give adults more leg room, bring children closer to the front seats and provide more cargo room behind the seats. Folding the second row and the available fold-flat front passenger seat flat creates plenty of room for hauling home lumber needed to assemble a playscape or skis from the slopes.

On five-passenger models, a tri-fold load floor is located behind the second-row seat and provides a hidden storage compartment for added utility. The load floor is reversible and configures into a “grocery bag” position. The primary side of the folding panel is carpeted for durability.

The available third-row seat is easy to operate and get into, thanks to Journey’s stadium Tip ’N Slide™ second-row seats. With the turn of a single lever on the side of the seat back, the seat cushions easily fold upward and the seat slides forward. Journey’s available 50/50-split-folding third-row seat provides enough room for two passengers on an as needed basis. The seatback reclines 6 degrees to make the ride even more comfortable. A rear in-floor hidden storage bin located behind the available third-row seat is standard on 5+2-passenger vehicles.

In addition to seating and storage features, Dodge Journey’s versatile and functional interior features a two-tone color scheme with high-contrast dark and light colors. A combination of Dark Slate Gray and Medium Slate Gray is available on SE models. A two-tone combination of Dark Slate Gray and Light Graystone or Dark Pebble Beige and Light Pebble Beige is available on SXT and R/T models. A premium soft-skin instrument panel provides a sense of quality and craftsmanship. Chrome accents the upper center bin latch, door handle, shifter bezel and door lock knobs and instrument cluster bezel. Journey R/T models add chrome touches on radio and climate control knobs.

The 2009 model-year Dodge Journey also features three types of seat upholstery: cloth is standard on the SE model, YES Essentials® stain-resistant, odor-resistant, anti-static seat fabric is available on the SE model and standard on the SXT model and leather is standard on the R/T model.

Innovative, Clever Features Deliver Flexibility

Many of Dodge Journey’s innovative and clever features are designed to be easily operated. Journey’s many user-friendly features include:

Dodge Nitro | super speed cars

Not to be Mistaken for Any Other Sport utility Vehicle on the Market

To better understand a new product, sometimes it helps to know what it is not. Take the all-new 2007 Dodge Nitro | super speed cars , for example.

Nitro is not another mid-size sport-utility vehicle with sleep-inducing styling. Instead, the bold styling and masculine swagger of Dodge (think Viper, Ram, Magnum and Caliber) is hot-wired into Nitro, inside and out.

The Dodge Nitro is not stuck on its handsome good looks. It’s also functional. Nitro’s spacious interior has room for five passengers, innovative cargo features, and the seating and storage flexibility to handle the needs of people and their gear.
Dodge Brand
With nine new vehicles launched in just two years, Dodge, the Chrysler Group’s best-selling brand, continues its product offensive for the 2007 model year.

With 1.4 million vehicles sold globally in 2005, Dodge is the No. 5 nameplate in the U.S. automotive market. Overall, Dodge has a 7 percent market share in the United States. In the minivan market, Dodge has a 19 percent market share; in the truck market, 16 percent; and 4 percent of the car market.

The Dodge showroom is loaded with new vehicles including Charger, Caliber, Nitro, Ram Mega Cab, Ram 1500, Ram 3500 Chassis Cab, Charger SRT8 and Viper SRT10 Coupe.

Dodge Goes Global
In 2005, Dodge sold 10,722 units outside North America, an increase of 19 percent from 2004.

Dodge continues to expand into international markets for the 2007 model year. More than 90 percent of Chrysler Group dealers in Western Europe will distribute and sell Dodge vehicles.
Safety
Dodge Nitro has a full range of active and passive safety systems. Among the vehicle’s standard equipment are Electronic Stability Program, Electronic Roll Mitigation, All-speed Traction Control, Brake Assist, Advanced Anti-lock Brakes and Side-curtain Air Bags.

Technology
Dodge Nitro is a rolling platform for some of the latest entertainment and communication technology available in the automotive industry.

Chrysler Group is the only company in the U.S. offering a completely integrated audio, navigation, entertainment and hands-free communication system. The MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System has the capability of downloading photos and music to a hard drive from a CD, DVD or USB memory device. All these functions can be controlled through voice commands and utilizing a touch screen.

Video Entertainment System (VES) enables rear passengers to enjoy movies, music and external audio/video devices. For example, the system will play DVDs, WMAs, MP3s and audio and video CDs.

SIRIUS Satellite Radio provides U.S. customers with 125 channels including 100 percent commercial-free music, sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic and weather. And the UConnect® Hands-free Communication System uses Bluetooth® technology to provide wireless communication between the customer’s compatible mobile phone and the vehicle’s on-board receiver.

Manufacturing
The 2007 Dodge Nitro will be built using Chrysler Group’s modern production process, called the Flexible Manufacturing Strategy (FMS). FMS allows the company to produce a higher quality product, faster, for lower cost. At the core of the new manufacturing process is the heavy use of robots at the Toledo (Ohio) North Assembly Plant, where Nitro will be manufactured.
The Dodge Nitro is not afraid to get frisky. The R/T model* — with its 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 engine, performance suspension and 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels and performance tires — will have drivers using “sporty” and “SUV” in the same sentence.

With more than 25 safety and security technologies, the Dodge Nitro is no stranger to the importance of safety.

Nitro is not timid about using technology, either. In fact, it’s very intuitive. The Dodge Nitro is well-versed in digital entertainment and communication technologies, including MP3, CD, DVD, USB, VES (for Video Entertainment System), and a new one, MyGIG™ Multimedia Infotainment System*. MyGIG allows customers to use touch screen or voice commands to control all of Nitro’s entertainment and communication technologies, and includes a 20-gigabyte hard drive where music and photos can be stored.

Finally, Dodge Nitro is not afraid of globe-trotting. It enters overseas markets in the summer of 2007, and will be available with an all-new 2.8-liter common rail diesel engine.

“The 2007 Dodge Nitro is going to heat up the mid-size SUV market by giving consumers a quality vehicle with masculine good looks, exceptional performance, unsurpassed utility and features that will surprise and delight,” said George Murphy, Senior Vice President – Global Marketing, Chrysler Group.

The Dodge Nitro is the first-ever mid-size sport-utility vehicle from Dodge, complementing the brand’s lineup, which now consists of passenger cars, minivans, trucks, commercial vehicles, a full-size SUV and police vehicles. In addition to Dodge Nitro R/T, the two other models offered in the United States are the Dodge Nitro SXT and Dodge Nitro SLT.
Design
The styling of the 2007 Dodge Nitro gives the mid-size SUV market something it hasn’t had since — well — forever: the bold, powerful, street-smart attitude of Dodge.

Dodge Nitro owes its masculine appearance to a number of elements: the signature Dodge crosshair grille with its three-dimensional ram’s head, prominent fender flares, substantial body size and high beltline. Even the exterior mirrors and door handles are brawny. The wheels of the Nitro are pushed to the corners, reinforcing the performance and capability of the vehicle. Those wheels, by the way, can be imposing: 20-inch chrome-clad wheels and tires can be had in the U.S. on the SLT model (optional), and the R/T model (standard).

On the inside, Dodge Nitro has supportive, comfortable and attractive seats. The front passenger seat folds flat, while the reclining rear seats fold 60/40.

Across from Nitro’s beefy four-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel is a three-pod, four-gauge instrument panel. The gauges are black with gray and white graphics and orange pointers, creating a look of technical precision.

Storage is plentiful. The center console has room for hand-held PDAs, cell phones or coins; there are driver- and passenger-side door compartments; and a map pocket behind the driver’s seat. The LOAD ’N GO™ floor is a new innovation. This sliding panel holds up to 400 pounds and is ideal for loading and unloading packages and other items. A reversible molded cargo load floor, durable and washable, is standard on the Dodge Nitro SXT.

Engineering
The powertrain and chassis options on the 2007 Dodge Nitro are tuned to provide customers with power, performance, controlled braking and handling, and a smooth, car-like ride.

The performance-oriented, 260 hp, 4.0-liter, single-overhead-cam (SOHC) V-6 is an enhanced version of the 3.5-liter engine used in prior Chrysler Group vehicles. The 4.0-liter engine is standard on the Dodge Nitro R/T model

The 3.7-liter SOHC V-6 engine, with its 210 hp, provides the 2007 Dodge Nitro with a standard engine that is efficient, durable and smooth. The engine has been refined to enhance low-speed torque while providing a smooth idle and minimal engine noise. Plus, a new exhaust gas recirculation valve helps increase fuel economy. The 3.7-liter V-6 is standard on the Dodge Nitro SXT and Dodge Nitro SLT models

The Dodge Nitro features a new coil-spring independent front suspension and an all-new five-link, coil-spring rear suspension. Performance-oriented drivers will want the new performance suspension optional on the Nitro SLT models equipped with 20-inch wheels and standard on the Nitro R/T. Dodge Nitro SXT and SLT with 16- and 17-inch wheels feature a sport suspension that delivers responsive handling with a comfortable ride

Three transmissions are offered on the Dodge Nitro: a six-speed manual transmission on SXT, a four-speed automatic on SXT and SLT and a five-speed automatic on R/T

Nitro is available in both two-wheel- and four-wheel-drive models

The 2007 Dodge Nitro was designed and engineered under the Chrysler Development System (CDS), the comprehensive, coordinated and disciplined product creation process that improves quality and speed-to-market while reducing costs and encouraging practical innovation in new products

Dodge Caliber | super speed cars

High-caliber Performance: with over 300 Horsepower, All-new Dodge Caliber SRT4 | super speed cars Poised to Dominate Sport compact Market

Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) group takes its ultimate-performance reputation to new heights with the introduction of the all-new 223 kW (303 hp DIN) Dodge Caliber SRT4.

“The all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4 achieves the SRT mission of offering benchmark performance for the best price,” said George Murphy, Senior Vice President – Global Marketing, Chrysler Group. “With over 300 horsepower under the hood, the Dodge Caliber SRT4 will dominate the sport-compact market.”

Thanks to its true “tuner performance” right out of the box and a great price, enthusiasts in the USA immediately took to the original Neon-based Dodge SRT4, which was introduced in 2003 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In the 2003-2005 model years, more than 25,000 Dodge SRT4s were sold.

“We couldn’t wait to infuse Dodge Caliber with the SRT formula and bring it to a European and international audience,” said Murphy. “The Dodge Caliber SRT4 delivers a strong dose of all-round performance while delivering more than 28 miles per gallon on the highway in U.S. tests. Our new SRT pocket rocket is going to be a hoot to drive.”

For Europe and other markets outside North America, the Dodge Caliber SRT4 will be available beginning in late 2007.
Street and Racing Technology

Since its inception in 2002, SRT has introduced 12 extreme-performance vehicles, including the Viper-powered Dodge Ram SRT10 regular cab and Quad Cab™, Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 Coupe and Roadster, Chrysler 300C SRT8 saloon and Touring, Dodge Magnum SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8, Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe and Roadster and Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8.

Every SRT vehicle showcases five key aspects:

• Exterior styling that resonates with the brand image
• Race-inspired interiors
• World-class ride and handling characteristics across a dynamic range
• Benchmark braking
• Standout powertrains

Functional, Performance-oriented Exterior Design

Because there is only one chance to make a first impression, the all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4 makes the most of it with muscular exterior styling.

“From the very first sketches of the all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4, we wanted an aggressive, SRT-signature look,” said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President – Design. “For example, because the intercooler is positioned so high behind the front grille, we moved the fascia slightly forward and extended the walls of the grille. The result is a much more aggressive look than the standard Dodge Caliber.”

An all-new front fascia below the signature Dodge crosshair grille incorporates functional performance features including ducts that direct air to cool the brakes and a wide centre inlet that provides air flow to the radiator. Fog lamps are also set into the fascia, alongside the brake ducts. The Dodge Caliber SRT4’s bonnet incorporates a functional scoop that brings cooling air into the engine compartment and a pair of extractors that exhaust hot air.

“Exterior design that works as well as it looks is a requirement for all SRT vehicles,” said Creed. “The hood design had to include the functionality of bringing cool air in and getting hot air out.”

The lowest portion of the Dodge Caliber SRT4’s fascia, which acts as an air dam to direct air around the front of the vehicle, wraps around to visually integrate with the radiussed wheel wells and lower side-sill mouldings.

The rear fascia continues the muscular, functional character of SRT vehicles, with lower vertical strakes that direct underbody air flow out the back of the vehicle, contributing to more stability at high speed. A single, 8.9cm (3.5 in.) exhaust tail pipe exits from the right side of the fascia.

Aerodynamic efficiency is also aided by an integrated spoiler above the rear tailgate glass, which incorporates the centre high-mounted stop light (CHMSL). This spoiler, which is nearly 60 per cent larger than that on the standard Dodge Caliber, is tuned for smoother air flow and to generate downforce while maximising the rear view.

Four exterior colours will be available on the all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4: Brilliant Black, Sunburst Orange, Bright Silver and Inferno Red.

Race-inspired Interior Appointments

In the “business office” of the five-door Dodge Caliber SRT4, a new interpretation of traditional SRT themes is carried out.

“The Dodge Caliber interior is unique with sophisticated and contemporary appointments,” said Creed. “When we enhanced it with SRT cues, we followed design themes that had been successful with the previous Dodge SRT4, including the graphic design of the instruments, separate boost gauge, and silver finish on the centre stack and interior trim.

“Overall, our strategy was to infuse the interior with performance-oriented enhancements to complement the Dodge Caliber SRT4’s aggressive exterior,” Creed added.

Unique SRT touches include sport seating with pronounced bolstering and performance fabric inserts to hold occupants during spirited driving, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a “carbon fibre” pattern on the upper portion. The seats, steering wheel and leather gear-shift boot feature contrasting stitching. Also unique to the Dodge Caliber SRT4 is an “alloy silver” finish on the instrument panel and shift bezel, and bright aluminium pedal pads that feature rubber studs for enhanced grip.

The centre-stack-mounted gear shift lever includes a lift ring to engage reverse, unique to the Dodge Caliber SRT4, as well as a leather-finished shift knob.

The instrument panel features three gauge “tunnels” outfitted with performance-oriented instrumentation, including a tachometer, 260 km/h (160 mph) speedometer, and water-temperature and fuel gauges. A turbocharger boost gauge is located on the left side of the instrument panel (and on the right side of the instrument panel for right-hand-drive models).

For the enjoyment of audiophiles, the Dodge Caliber SRT4 is equipped with a standard AM-FM radio with a multi-disc CD changer. An available SRT/Kicker high-performance audio system boasts up to 13 speakers in seven locations, powered by a 322-watt amplifier and 100-watt subwoofer.

The interior upholstery and trim of the Dodge Caliber SRT4 is offered in Dark/Light Slate Gray.

World-class Ride and Handling
Process, Productivity Key to Manufacturing Excellence

The all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4 is built at the Chrysler Group’s Belvidere (Illinois, USA) Assembly Plant on the same assembly line with the Dodge Caliber S, SE, SXT and R/T models.

Previously the home of the Dodge Neon, the plant recently underwent a multimillion-dollar upgrade to prepare for Caliber production. A new body shop and other upgrades are part of a total program investment of $419 million that was announced in January 2005. The robotic body shop can build the Dodge Caliber SRT4, Caliber and potentially three other vehicles with no negative impact on production. Robots can make necessary tool changes automatically within cycle time, in about 45 seconds.

For Europe and other international markets, the Dodge Caliber SRT4 will be available beginning in late 2007.
Dodge Caliber SRT4 Safety and Security Features

Following are safety and security features in the all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4:

• Advanced multi-stage front air bags: offer enhanced protection for a range of occupants and are designed to identify the size of an occupant in the front passenger seat based primarily on weight
• Anti-lock braking system: equipped with electronic sensors that help prevent wheel lockup, the ABS system offers improved steering control under extreme braking and/or slippery conditions
• Auto-reverse sun roof: an advanced sensing system that automatically engages and reverses the sun roof to the open position if it senses an obstacle
• BeltAlert: sounds a periodic chime to alert the driver and all occupants to fasten their seat belts if they have not buckled-up
• Brake Assist: the vehicle senses a panic brake condition and applies maximum braking power, providing the shortest possible stopping distance
• Child seat anchor system (ISOFIX): this system helps ease the installation of compatible aftermarket child seats
• Constant Force Retractors (CFR): a mechanical device in each front seat belt is designed to mitigate the force of a seat belt according to the load or force exerted on it. CFRs are engineered to force-limit the belt system and gradually release seat-belt webbing in a controlled manner during a severe impact
• Electronic Stability Programme (ESP): aids the driver in maintaining vehicle directional stability, providing oversteer and understeer control to maintain vehicle behaviour
• Enhanced Accident Response System (EARS): in the event of an impact, this system makes it easier for emergency personnel to see and access occupants by automatically turning on interior lighting and unlocking doors after air bag deployment. The system also shuts off the flow of fuel to the engine
• Height-adjustable seat belts: allow passengers to lift and lower the shoulder belt to a comfortable level. Encourages seat belt usage by offering a more comfortable fit
• Knee bolsters: the steering column, lower instrument panel and the glove-box door are reinforced to protect unbelted occupants during frontal impacts. They both restrain and position the occupant properly and enable air bags to work effectively
• Remote keyless entry: locks and unlocks doors, and turns on interior lamps. If the vehicle is equipped with a vehicle-theft security alarm, the remote also arms and disarms that system
• Seat-belt Pretensioners: during a collision, impact sensors initiate front seat belt pretensioners to immediately remove slack from seat belts, which reduces the forward movement of an occupant’s head and torso
• Sentry Key® Engine Immobiliser: utilises an engine key that has an embedded transponder with a pre-programmed security key code. If the correct key is not used, the engine will shut off after only a few seconds
• Supplemental side-curtain air bags: standard side-curtain air bags extend protection to front- and rear-seat outboard occupants. Each side air bag has its own impact sensor in order to autonomously trigger the air bag on the side where the side impact occurs
• Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM): this advanced system monitors tyre pressure and alerts the driver to improper tyre pressure conditions. Low pressure on any tyre illuminates the amber warning indicator in the instrument cluster

Street- and Track-tested Quality

The all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4 was designed and engineered under the Chrysler Development System (CDS), the comprehensive, coordinated and disciplined product-creation process that improves quality and speed-to-market while reducing costs and encouraging practical innovation in new vehicles.

CDS emphasises systems engineering, design and up-front planning to avoid time-consuming and costly trial-and-error methods, or changes during the later phases of the product development cycle. With CDS, all product and process planning is completed and fully integrated before production tooling begins.

Dodge Caliber SRT4 development also encompasses actual conditions, both on the street and on the race track. To simulate real-world conditions, the Caliber SRT4 will have logged nearly 3.2 million customer-equivalent road kilometres (2 million miles) by the time vehicles begin appearing in dealerships.

To ensure its track-ready character, extensive durability testing of the Dodge Caliber SRT4 has been undertaken at the Firebird Raceway in Phoenix; Texas Motorsports Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas; and Nelson Ledges in Garrettsville, Ohio.
Standout Powertrain

The five-door hot-hatch Dodge Caliber SRT4 is capable of a 0-100 km/h time in approximately six seconds. How is that possible?

The latest SRT model gets its motivation from an all-new World Engine produced at the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) facility in Dundee, Mich. The World Engine is a family of fuel- and emissions-efficient aluminium four-cylinder petrol engines co-developed by DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler Group, Hyundai Motor Company and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.

“The all-new 2.4-litre turbocharged World Engine delivers a level of power you’d expect from a V-8,” said Pete Gladysz, Senior Manager – Powertrain, SRT. “With the engine in the all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4, we were able to take advantage of tried-and-true performance improvements, such as increased cylinder-head flow and higher compression ratio, as well as newer technologies such as Variable Valve Timing (VVT).”

To achieve its high-performance Dodge Caliber SRT4 configuration, the aluminium 2.4-litre World Engine block is specially machined for increased water and oil flow. Unique cast pistons travel within iron cylinder liners, and are cooled by oil squirters and affixed to forged connecting rods for high-revving reliability.

Tri-metal bearings are used for the connecting rods and crankshaft for high-performance durability. A unique oil pump/balance shaft module keeps the reciprocating assembly well-lubricated and running smoothly. An external cooler keeps oil temperatures within a safe range.

The aluminium cylinder heads are also a World Engine casting equipped with unique high-temperature exhaust valves. VVT uses computer mapping to open and close intake and exhaust valves at optimal points for efficient combustion and flow. The camshaft and micro-alloy steel crankshaft, shared with the non-turbocharged 2.4-litre World Engine, are fully capable of handling these high-horsepower loads.

Free-flow induction begins with an all-new air cleaner assembly that draws through an opening in a front chassis cross member for proximity to cool air. The air is then compressed in a TD04 turbocharger specially configured for the engine’s inlet and outlet packaging requirements, and sent through an intercooler to a 57mm throttle body.

Fuel is provided by a high-flow pump feeding injectors developed specifically for the Dodge Caliber SRT4. An all-new engine management system designed by Siemens – the Global Powertrain Engine Controller – keeps the powerplant running at maximum efficiency and power.

On the exhaust side, spent gases exit through a free-flow system that features two catalytic converters – one immediately downstream from the turbo, and another further along the 7.5cm (3 in.) single-pipe exhaust system. Using two catalytic converters in this way provides significantly better “light-off” for decreased emissions. As with the previous-generation Dodge SRT4, the exhaust is tuned for maximum performance while meeting U.S. federal, international and European noise regulations.

Power is transferred through a dual-mass flywheel to the six-speed manual transaxle. The dual-mass flywheel consists of two flywheels sandwiching internal springs that are specially tuned to reduce noise and vibration. The Getrag DMT-6 six-speed transaxle, equipped with a limited-slip differential for uniform side-to-side power transfer, is capable of handling up to 407 Nm (300 lb.-ft.) of torque.

Torque is sent to the Dodge Caliber SRT4’s front wheels through equal-length halfshafts sourced from Chrysler Group mid-size cars for their larger size and power-handling capability.

Top 10 List of Best Getaway Vehicles for Pulling a Heist

Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

A real heist is a job that usually requires the teamwork of a few people . That means you need more seats than you find in a Caterham. But no matter what the dirt-ball salesman tells you, a minivan is not the way to go. Just because the new Sienna is "sport-tuned" doesn't mean it's "outrun-crown-vics-tuned." What you want is a 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
The new Cayenne is 400lbs lighter than the outgoing model, so it's nimble enough to dodge bullets and make last-second directional changes, a key element to escaping roadblocks. It seats 5 so you won't be short handed, with enough trunk space in the back to hold your loot and gear. It's also a competent off-roader, and if you've ever watched a police-chase on TV, you know these things can go off the highway at any time. As for the slew of wailling Crown Vics? They'll have a hard time keeping up with 500hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. I don't care what state you're in, no cop car can hang with the Cayenne's 4.4s 0-60 time, and its top speed of 172mph will leave any cop in the dust.

Chevy Silverado 2500HD

The Cayenne is a great mid-size vehicle, good for the smaller bank job, or maybe some precieous jewels. But say you have a bigger payload than that. In Dark Knight The Joker used a school bus to haul off duffel bags full of money. It worked fine, but it's not the quickest vehicle out there. We'd want something faster, but still capable of taking every last dollar. Enter the Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax. The crew cab means you can take all your cronies with you, and the bed in the back can hold more money than MC Hammer could spend. Plus, the tailgate provides great cover for the inevitable highway shootout.
Jumping from a super-SUV like the Cayenne to a work-horse truck may seem like a step down in getaway power; it's not. In stock form the 6.6L Diesel engine makes a moderate 360hp, but turns the planet with 650 ft-lb of torque. But spend an extra $1,500 and your truck can have over 500hp and almost 1000 ft-lb of unstoppable twist. Not only will this truck outrun any boys in blue, should they be silly enough to setup a road block the 5,500lb curb weight and massive torque means you're going through that road block like tissue paper.

Ford Focus RS

Right now times are tough, and jobs are hard to come by, so they say you should take any job you can get. Maybe you're the kind of criminal who prefers to rob banks close to an open Nevada highway, making the escape as easy as possible. Get on highway, mash gas, celebrate once you hit Utah. But what if those jobs aren't coming in? What if you get hired to steal some art from Paris' most famous art gallery, the Louvre. Even the Cayenne would feel big on those little cobblestone streets. There's a reason the cars you see in Europe are tiny; the streets are tiny.

BRABUS Mercedes Benz Viano

Forget the Ford Econoline that's used in every bank robbery. This is a van BRABUS-style. They call it a "mobile multimedia office with sports car performance." If you need an evil lair but don't want to be tied down to one location, this might be the solution. With boardroom seating and a few flat-screens, this van has everything you need for your Mission Impossible-style planning montage.
As far as the mobility portion, how does a 5.0 Liter V8 with 420hp/458 lb-ft of torque sound? Cop cars aren't fast, but they're faster than the classic Ford rotor-rooter mobile. You don't have to worry about that with the Viano. With a top speed of 152mph, BRABUS-tuned suspension and chassis upgrades, and even optional bullet proof panels, it has everything you need to steal an entire art collection, or a safe full of gold bars a la The Italian Job.

1956 Chevy Nomad

It's a muscle car and a station wagon. There's seating for 5 or 6, with a huge cargo area in the back. Throw in a healthy V8 motor and you have more than enough grunt to outrun the most modern cop cars. No mamby pamby dent-resistent panels here, this former grocery-getter has more steel than the Statue of Liberty and weighs almost as much. It's like a depleted uranium missile with wheels bolted to it.

It also has something many of today's cars don't; simplicity. Sure the RS6 Avant is faster and handles better. But what happens when the right fender gets bashed in and knocks some silly sensor loose that monitors the mood of the distributor cap? Maybe just warning lights, or maybe a system shut-down. Either way the more complicated something is, the more prone to failure (*cough* banking system). The Nomad is so simple it didn't even come with seat belts. Four wheels and a basic V8 up front mean you can bash your way out of a jam, and back at the hideout you can have "Tank" or "Motor" - whatever you call the henchman who always seems to have a welder - fix it.

Conquest Knight XV

In some heists everything goes according to plan; the guard falls asleep on cue, you cut the right alarm wire, and the only 9-1-1 call that night is some crazy, fat imbecile complaining that Burger King is out of chicken nuggets. Conquest's battle-fortified beast is powered by a 6.8L V-10 engine that makes 400hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. Bolted to a Ford Super Duty frame the Knight XV has bullet-proof body panels and windows, ballistic run-flat tires and a 40 gallon fuel tank. It's like a combat-ready limosine. If Arnold lived in Baghdad, this is what he'd drive. Seasoned professionals will appreciate its large cargo area and multimedia-equipped passenger compartment. Newbies will be very grateful of the armor because it means they can make all the mistakes they want and still get away with the loot. The price for the Conquest Knight XV is $310,000, so you might need to rob a few banks just to buy it. But hey, it's all lined with Alcantara, so it's worth it.

Sportec Audi RS6

If you are reading this post and have never seen the movie Ronin, when you reach the end of this sentence I want you to fold your laptop, drive to a video store and rent it. Now that we've all seen the movie, we're probably all in agreement that even on mute Ronin would be a good movie, simply because of the car chases. They are some of the best and longest I have ever seen. A main star of this movie is the Audi S8. It's for that reason that we think the new Audi RS6 by Sportec would make for a phenomenal getaway/transport vehicle.

Buckshot Racing X2R

It's hard to explain exactly what is the Buckshot Racing X2R. It's built by a company that specializes in sand rails, but it has the body of a supercar, and the engine from a Texas Mile contender. Essentially, it's a baja racer with the look and performance of a hyper car. Want specifics? It has a 427 cu. in. Chevy motor which, when the turbos are running at 22psi, puts out 1400hp. This car is faster on sand than most cars are on tarmac. And because it has shocks taller than many trees, few obstacles can stop it.

ABT Sportsline Audi Q7 "AS7"

So far we've shown you some wild vehicles to aid in your "job." But what if you're the automotive shopping equivalent of Goldilocks; the Knight XV is too hardcore, the X2R is too exposed and the RS6 doesn't have enough seats. Well, German tuner ABT Sportline has just the thing for you. Called the ABT Sportline AS7, it's an Audi Q7 that has had it's 3.0 liter turbo-diesel "improved." Improved in the same way that an AK-47 is an "improvement" over the bow-and-arrow.Originally the V6 clanked out 221hp and 406ft lbs from the torquey elixir we call diesel. But after ABT was done, the Q7 holds an impressive 500hp and monstrous 737 lb-ft of torque. The 2.6 ton SUV can now reach 60mph in only 5.3 seconds. It also has 3 rows of seating, in case you need a small army. It's strong enough to handle any condition, and has plenty of clearance if the escape route happens to include a dirt road. There, happy?

The term "robbery" is pretty wide. You can go into a 7-11 and threaten the clerk with a banana in your pocket (no joke), you can rapel down a ventilation shaft a la Mission Impossible or you can just grab a gun the size of small man, put on a bunch of black clothes, and do a good ol' fashioned stick-'em-up at a bank. With all the identity theft and computer hacking, I feel like that type of heist is going out of style. To do a job like that, you should have a car with some nostalgia and some balls.
Enter the SMS Dodge Challenger 570, from Steve Millen Supercars. It's an old-school muscle car, but with modern reliability and handling. The supercharged engine gives you 500hp and enough torque to practically tear the door off a bank vault. In the movie Bullitt the bad guys were running in a purple Challenger, but they couldn't shake Steve McQueen in his GT350. Maybe if they're Challenger had had the 570's SMS suspension and brake upgrades, they'd have had a chance.
