Chery Riich R2

Chery Automobile released its first mini-MPV, the Riich R2, at the Changchun International Automobile Show. The new model joins the Tiggo 3, V5 and Karry in the China-based carmaker's SUV and MPV range.

Though the design of the Riich R2 was subcontracted to the Japanese branch of IAT, a Beijing-based automobile design company, it continues with Chery's signature style, largely due to the digital model and engineering design having been completed at IAT's head office in Beijing. In exterior appearance, the design of the mini-MPV features an arc in the roofline, while the interior trim and instruments is said to be of 'sedan style'. The five-seat or seven-seat layout is similar to a conventional MPV and can be arranged in a variety of configurations. The two rear rows can also be completely laid flat to form a van.

The Riich R2 utilizes a front-mounted ACTECO 1.3-liter engine, jointly designed by Chery and AVL, driving the front wheels. Its wheelbase measures 4040mm.

Chery Shooting Sport concept

Chinese manufacturer Chery will be presenting the Shooting Sport concept at the Shanghai Motor Show this week. The Shooting Sport was designed and constructed by Torino Design in Italy, as with the recent Coupe and SUV shown at the Beijing Motor Show. The car is a compact, front wheel drive, four seater + luggage, three door 'wagon-coupe' offering space and flexibility. The design is a cross between the typical English shooting brake and a modern Italian-style coupe.

The interior is fresh and bright, with colored 'ambient lighting' matching white leather with green with oranges shades to add warmth to the cabin.

The Shooting Sport is ready for production development with only few adaptations and Chery will make a decision following evaluation of the public reaction at the Shanghai show. Designed and engineered by teams led by Giuliano Biasio and Claudio Villani, the Chery Shooting Sport was created in record time, based on the upcoming C segment range that will be powered by the new 87 kW 1.6 litre Chery engine. Production could start in 2008 with export starting in 2009.
