Sébastien Loeb won the World Rally Championship by one point over the weekend in a dramatic final season at the Wales Rally. Wales Rally GB run a point behind Mikko Hirvonen, Loeb held his nerve to lead from start to finish to get a famous victory, his 54th overall and sixth consecutive historic World Rally Championship Drivers’ title.

Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena victory, their seventh season, capped off a successful year for the Citroen Total World Rally Team wrapped with manufacturers title in the penultimate rally in Spain three weeks ago.

Sébastien Loeb commented, “There is so much pressure to end the protests. It’s never easy to compare one with another title, but I think this is the best in terms of our combat sports. This is the last rally and we were not able to get it wrong. Everyone expects us to win, but I can tell you that nothing is certain until we reach the finish. ”
Dani Sordo, who took third place in Wales, and third overall in the 2009 World Rally Championship commented, “When we arrived at the Mikko nine-tenths of a second stage from behind, we say to ourselves, we must try and we have been encouraged to limits.
